What are Eating Disorders?

Eating disorders can be debilitating and have a severe mental and physical affect. Eating disorders are a serious mental health condition, and as well as putting your child's life at risk by suicide, they can lead to long term physical effects such as a weakened immune system, high blood pressure, hormone disruption and infertility. They can be caused by factors such as social media teaching children to place a high value on looks or even being criticised at some point in the past about their body shape or weight. They feel under pressure to look a certain way, and don't feel as though they can live up to expectations.

How We Can Help

Using specialist therapy techniques we will uncover the underlying causes and triggers of their eating disorder and develop strategies to improve their wellbeing. - Reduce preoccupation with food - Develop self-esteem - Have a positive body image - Learn to deal with emotions - Develop social skills - Reduce excessive exercise - Stop negative eating behaviours - Decrease anxiety and fear - Introduce the acceptance towards having a healthy weight

As each child has individual needs, their own personality and different levels of openness, our counselling and therapy is tailored to their particular requirements to help explore and understand their struggles with eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and binge eating.
