Connecting with positive emotions that are already around us and acknowledging the good things that you experience in your life can help combat mental health illnesses such as anxiety and depression as well as increasing wellbeing and happiness.
As you know, gratitude is expressing appreciation for what you have and reflecting on the aspects of life that bring joy. By practising being thankful you will fight the tendency to look at the negatives.
Some examples of being thankful you can practice:
- I am grateful for my family because .....
- I am grateful for my friendship with ..... because....
- I am grateful for who I am because ....

- One good thing that happened to me today .....
- Something good that I saw someone do .....
- Something I accomplished today .....
- Something funny that happened today .....
- Someone I was thankful for today because .....
- Today I smiled when .....
- Something about today I’ll always want to remember .....
- My favourite part of today was .....
